Military Spouse/Fisher House Marathon Team
Military Spouse magazine has joined forces with the Fisher House Foundation to form a Military Spouse/Fisher House Marathon Team. This team will run in the 2006 Marine Corps Marathon on October 29th of this year and raise a significant amount of money for the Fisher House Foundation.
The goals of each runner will be to complete the race and raise $500 for the charity. Now, these goals may sound out of reach for some, but with the help of Military Spouse/Fisher House Team, they can be accomplished. The team will guide, support and aid the runners with a Team Coordinator, Team Motivator, an interactive Blog, and with the assistance of the Fisher House itself.
The Team Coordinator, Cathy Cabrey, will keep a roster of all interested runners, offer fund-raising information and literature to help the runner raise money, guide the runner though the registration process, and interact on the Blog. Cathy's e-mail: cathy@militaryspousemagazine.com.
The Team Motivator, Stacy Toner, will help the runners choose the right training program, keep the runners motivated, and link them to the latest training advice and equipment to make the training process more comfortable and satisfying. Stacy's e-mail: stacy@militaryspousemagazine.com.
A Military Spouse/Fisher House Marathon Team Blog site is an online forum to discuss runners' questions, concerns, progress, and training successes. Both the Team Coordinator and the Team Motivator will post often to the site. Although the runners will be training as "geographical individuals," the team will be training together through the Blog. Join the forum at www.militaryspousemagazine.com/marathon.
The Fisher House Foundation will coordinate the registration process for the Team, host a fantastic tent before and after the race, block off hotel rooms in D.C. so the team can get to know each other before the race, and give each runner an amazing goodie bag with items donated from corporate sponsors from around the country. The greatest accomplishment that this team will have will be raising money for a very worthy cause, the Fisher House Foundation (www.fisherhouse.org).
The greatest accomplish that each runner will have will be to finish a 26.2 mile race. Join our team. Achieve greatness for yourself and the Fisher House. Run for America's Soldiers, Airmen, Sailors, Marines and Coasties. To join the team, or to get more information, contact Cathy Cabrey at cathy@militaryspousemagazine.com Registration Deadline: May 16, 2006

DoD Revises Equipment Reimbursement Policy:
The Defense Department announced last week it had revised the memorandum on the policy and procedures for the reimbursement of privately purchased protective equipment for Operations Noble Eagle, Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. The new memo, which was signed February 10 by David S.C. Chu, Undersecretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness, incorporates the original guidance published on October 4, 2005, expands the list of reimbursable equipment, and extends the eligible purchase period for reimbursement. Is a new Child Development Center or More Family Housing Coming to Your Installation?
As part of its FY 2007 budget proposal, DoD included several housing and other quality of life projects. Many of these projects are intended to ready installations preparing to receive servicemembers and families due to Service-mandated changes or global rebasing. The military construction funding proposed in the FY 2007 request will not meet the immediate needs facing these installations, but will provide much-needed enhancements to the quality of life of servicemembers and families in the future. For more information click here.
The Operation Purple camp program gives additional support to children coping with deployment-related stresses, and is open to any military child. This year we will host more than 2,500 deserving children in 22 states. Online registration begins March 15, 2006. For program and site information click here.
